Product Updates: July 2026

Jul 5, 2026

This month we’re excited to introduce Improved Camera Controls, a rebuilt in-app camera that behaves like the camera you already know from your phone.

To learn more, see below.

Improved Camera Controls

What’s new

The camera you use to capture inspection photos and videos has been rebuilt from the ground up with the controls you expect from your phone’s native camera app. You can now pinch to zoom across lenses, tap to focus on any spot, adjust brightness on the fly, switch aspect ratios, keep a flashlight on continuously in dark spaces, and snap a photo with the physical volume buttons. Getting a clear, well-framed shot of a defect now takes fewer taps and less fuss.

Why it matters

  • Sharper documentation: Zoom in on the exact detail and lock focus where it counts, so defects are clear in your report

  • Easier shots in tight spaces: A continuous flashlight lights up attics and crawlspaces while you compose the shot

  • Faster capture: Snap photos with the volume button and dismiss the camera with a swipe, so you keep moving through the inspection

  • Familiar and intuitive: The controls work just like your phone’s camera, so there’s nothing new to learn

Key capabilities

  • Zoom across lenses: Pinch to zoom smoothly, or tap a preset (like 0.5x, 1x, or 5x, depending on your device) to jump straight to a lens

  • Tap to focus and adjust brightness: Tap anywhere on the preview to focus on that spot, then drag the brightness slider to lighten or darken the shot (on supported devices)

  • Aspect ratio switching: Cycle between standard (4:3), square (1:1), and widescreen (16:9). Your last choice is remembered for next time

  • Continuous flashlight: Keep a torch on while you frame a shot in a dark space, separate from the momentary capture flash

  • Volume-button shutter: Press either physical volume button to take the photo, no need to tap the screen

  • Swipe to dismiss: Close the camera with a quick swipe down instead of hunting for a button

  • More devices supported: Improved lens detection means ultra-wide and telephoto zoom now works as you expected on your device

How it works

  1. Open a component in the inspection form and tap the camera icon to start taking a photo or video

  2. If camera, microphone, or photo access hasn’t been granted yet, follow the permissions screen to grant it in your device settings

  3. Pinch to zoom, or tap a zoom preset (e.g. 0.5x, 1x, 5x) to jump to a lens instantly

  4. Tap anywhere on the preview to focus on that spot, then drag the brightness slider to fine-tune the shot

  5. Tap the aspect-ratio button to cycle between 4:3, 1:1, and 16:9

  6. Tap the torch icon to keep the flashlight on while you compose a shot in a dark space

  7. Press either physical volume button to snap the photo

  8. Swipe down to dismiss the camera and return to the form
